Marta Firlet has reflected on the theme of libraries, which appear to be cemeteries of a lost culture. Although church doors are always open, even these doors are close with regards to scientific culture. Following this thought, one that closely refers to every city infused with culture, the artist has enclosed a series of books each in a plaster shell. Impossible to open, the books will be exhibited in the library of the Centro Civico and simultaneously available on-line, where she will also explain the process she undertook while living in Venice. In this way, the artist wants to underline the elite property of knowledge. Furthermore, and in parallel, Marta Firlet will represent modified antique prints by venetian masters, preserved in wax, and placed in the church of Santa Maria Formosa. |
