Monica Biagioli produced a series of handbags entitled STRADA with the obvious allusion to Prada handbags, whose fakes are sold in venetian streets by primarily Senegalese salesmen. The artist sought to involve Prada itself, which manages a foundation focussed on contemporary art. One interesting aspect is that the Senegalese salesmen will participate in the performance at the show inauguration, while the the involvement of Prada has been suspended: the foundation that exhibited artists, even those critical of consumer culture, such as Barry McGee, Sam Taylor Wood, Michael Heizer, Laurie Anderson, seems afraid to take on an art project that is self critical.
